Busy summer
Thought since I was uploading some new paintings, I should send out a blog since it has been awhile.

I have been trying really hard to get downstairs to paint but there always seems to be something else going on. Summer is a really difficult time to discipline myself, so I am not going to worry about it so much. I do have a plan for next year. Its a learning curve. I plan to paint full time and build up my inventory during the winter so that I dont have to worry so much about it in the summer. I will be busy with festivals and shows and will still be painting, but I dont want to sweat it. There, that sounds like a plan to me. I will let you know if it works out.

I have been painting a bit with oils but am getting very frusterated with them. I am so used to painting "wet on dry" with acrylics that I turn the "wet on wet" into mud. I have some wonderful pictures of mud. I will keep at it and will eventually figure it out because I really like the look of oils. I think that when I have it all figured out it should bump my work up a notch. And thats always good!

Getting ready for the "Originals Only" show at the Comox Marina for the 7th and 8th of August. Feeling a little panicky as usual. I always like to have a handful of new paintings for each show so I have been scrambling. This is the last show for this summer. Phew!

I was accepted to participate in the "Island Arts Expo" in November. It was a great show last year and I am looking forward to it once again. I am also in a group show at TOSH with my critique group in November as well. I am working on a series of paintings for that particular show. They will be different than what you are used to seeing from me.

I will attach my two latest paintings. They are both 18x24 and on deep canvas.

Blog ya later! Lone Gull Sawmill Bay, Read Island

Summer takes over..
My goodness I have been busy. Lets see, whats new. I just spent 4 days on quadra island just my dog and I, for an "Emily Carr" style artist retreat. It was good for the soul. I took my new oil paints and I think I am going to love them. It was wonderful to walk away from my easel in the hot sun, go take a break and come back to wet paint! I am so used to dealing with acrylic paint that dries almost before you can put brush to canvas. I managed to do up 5 little studies on 8x10 canvases. I am just waiting for them to dry so I can finish them up. I have to learn to be a little more patient with oils.

I have the Moss Street Paint in coming up on the 17th of July. I am at the Dallas Road end of the street, #73. Just up the street from me is Linda Skalenda, #85, Nana Cook, #94 and Sheryl Sawchuck, #69. It is my first year, and I am in good company.

Four paintings of mine have been accepted in the Victoria Art Gallery’s Summer Small Works show, which runs from June 26th to August 29th.

I have decided that before I start on my large paintings each day, I am going to work on a small "warm-up", thus carrying on with my painting a day. But this time probably not every day as summer has me busy with other tasks.

Well, thats about it. It is almost 9 pm, I was up late last night watching the fireworks in Parksville. I am done.
